Elmer Hildebrand, Chief Executive Officer
Elmer Hildebrand is the Chief Executive Officer of Golden West Broadcasting, Ltd. Under his leadership, Golden West has grown a single AM radio station in Altona and Steinbach, Manitoba to 40 AM and FM radio stations and 16 community portals across the prairies.
Elmer began his broadcast career with Golden West in 1957, and became the General Manager in 1965. As the company grew, Elmer and his leadership team have remained focused on delivering a unique brand of local service radio to smaller communities from Northwestern Ontario to Alberta. For many of these communities, Golden West provides the only daily source of local information.
Leading by example, Elmer is an enthusiastic volunteer, tireless fund-raiser, perpetual committee member, and long-standing director for local churches, festivals, museums and charitable organizations, arts councils and sporting groups.
Elmer is also committed to maintaining a strong broadcasting industry, and has served on the board of many of the broadcast-related industry associations in the Canada. He was one of the original organizers of the Broadcaster Association of Manitoba, and is the past president of the Western Association of Broadcasters. He has received recognition from many industry organizations, including a two-time winner of the Broadcaster of the Year Award, recipient of the Manitoba Broadcast Pioneer Award, and has an Honorary Life Membership from the Western Association of Broadcasters. Elmer is past Chair of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters (CAB) and a member of the CAB Hall of Fame.
In 2012, Elmer received the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee medal, and in 2013 he was appointed to the Order of Canada.
Elmer currently lives in Winnipeg with his wife Hilda.
